This is a movement that encourages more people to start growing avocados (and other food!) at home.
You can easily get started - just plant an avocado stone from any avocado fruit you can get your hands on.
We will teach you how to "graft on" a cutting from an avocado variety we have access to - meaning you will be able to grow your own healthy, tasty avocados directly in your own garden or on communal land.
Grafting is easy! What is hard is finding and receiving avocado cuttings of a desired avocado variety, and making the graft at the right time of the year.
If you don't want to do all this - we are growing over 100 avocado trees - and grafting them for you - and plan on giving these away locally.
We are building this as the initial community based avocado network. These trees will become "mother" avocado trees. They will become trees that we can take cuttings from, and share these with other growers, thus expanding the network exponentially.
Our project aims to create a strong, engaged network of growers and grafters.
This is a movement that has several aims:
1 - It gets more people involved with growing food locally
2 - It builds connections locally
3 - It teaches people about fruit growing (in particular, taking cuttings, and grafting)
4 - It encourages people to share their produce, and to share cuttings with each other.
5 - It builds resilience against a global food industry which is at risk of breaking apart due to climate change, rising inequality, and late-stage-capitalism (an increase in wars started by imperialist forces).
The answer to most of our problems is to start organise ourselves locally.
Start repairing our soils.
Start sowing more seeds.
Build a local and resilient network - fight for your independence from a capitalist system that only looks to extract and exploit!
