About Us

This is a small community project originating in northern Galicia, near A Coruña, Spain.

We welcome anyone passionate about avocados and their cultivation, especially those concerned about issues such as climate change, growing global inequality, food monocultures, and so on.

The (Current) Team

Despite referring to ourselves in the collective, currently the team is quite small... with just one person! But you have to start somewhere. We want to include as many people as possible in this movement - individuals and organisations.

Matt Tutt (Head gardener)

Matt is the founder of the Aguacateros movement and is a self-obsessed gardener and amateur avocado grower.

With a strong interest in permaculture and food forests, he has many years experience working in his own garden where he grows a wide variety of edible and medicinal plants, as well as growing a few edible mushrooms (another keen interest of his).

He is an advocate of degrowth (and volunteer with the IDN), and he describes degrowth as a movement which aims to encourage people in the Global North to reduce their level of consumption, as well as looking to dismantle our violent, extractive capitalist system.

VOLUNTEER AND HELP US

Join our Avocado Collective

Everyone is welcome to join us: perhaps you want to learn how to grow avocados or simply want to support the movement.

You can get involved simply by sending us a message below.

There's always a role for someone, whether you want to volunteer and help with the growth of this project in and around Galicia, or if you simply want to learn more about avocado cultivation, or even just get some different varieties of avocado grafting material, just get in touch to show your interest!
